Northside Hospital Launches State-of-the-Art Interventional Neuroradiology Program For Better Brain Care

St. Petersburg, FL  -- (December 23, 2009) – Northside Hospital & Tampa Bay Heart Institute has launched its Interventional Neuroradiology program, which will be a part of the facility’s new Neuroscience Institute. Led by Nasser Razack, M.D., who is fellowship trained in interventional neuroradiology and has been providing interventional neuroradiology services to patients since 2001, this program will offer patients comprehensive treatment for stroke and aneurysms. Dr. Razack is one of only two providers of Interventional Neuroradiology in Pinellas County.

In bringing this service to Northside Hospital, stroke patients extend their available window for treatment from three hours to eight hours. Stroke is the number two leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability worldwide. In addition to stroke care, Northside Hospital will be able to provide minimally-invasive treatment for cerebral aneurysms, a condition that at one time required local hospitals to transfer patients as far away as Jacksonville to receive care that will now be available here.

“At Northside Hospital we are focused on high-quality care and this program will expand our ability to treat common, yet disabling, conditions as stroke and aneurysm,” said Stephen J. Daugherty, CEO and President of Northside Hospital. “We will offer the most technologically advanced, state-of-the-art neuro imaging equipment in the Tampa Bay area. This new program will enable us to provide better diagnostics and treatments, which in turn will improve our patients’ outcome and enhance their quality of life.”

“Interventional Neuroradiology is an integral part of neurologic care and an advanced treatment option that has been overlooked in the past,” said Dr. Razack. “I look forward to working with Northside Hospital and the new Neuroscience Institute to bring stroke and aneurysm care to the forefront.”
